Recorded in basements, warehouses, bathrooms and bedrooms all over Oakland, and with compositions from all three band members, the new release from this Bay Area group manages a surprising cohesiveness. From their humble and weird beginnings of dive bar free improvisations and wild haired head banging, The Moanin Dove has evolved into a collective of mature songwriters. These are songs written from a place of critical observation, examining the peculiarities of a tumultuous world with stories of personal conflict. The arrangements are exciting and smart, achieving a sweeping eloquence and depth without overpowering the songs.
The trio of James Riotto, Robert Shelton, and Josh Korr are joined here by an amazing group of their musician friends, most notably Jeremy Harris (Ever Isles, Honey.Moon.Tree, Kacey Johansing), who lends his multi-instrumental talents to much of the EP, and Mohsen Namjoo, the great Persian singer and Setar player with whom The Moanin Dove tours the world as his backing band.
